First time visiting? Here are answers to some questions you might have.
What can I expect when I come to a Sunday worship service?
  • You can expect to be fed with God's Word, which permeates every aspect of our worship service at Grace.  God's Word centers on Christ, so you can expect to hear about Jesus in every service.  You'll hear readings from the Bible, a sermon which is based on one of those readings, hymns which point to the central theme of the service, and congregational responses that proclaim God's love for us.  Worship is both reverant and joyful, a time for confession of sins and absolution, a time to pray and praise.

Maybe you'll be familiar with some aspects of our service - that's great!  Please join in as you feel comfortable.  Other parts of our service might be new to you - that's okay too.  Feel free to simply sit and listen.

There's a reason for everything we do in our worship service.  If you have a question, please ask.  We're happy to help!
How should I dress when I come to church?
  • You might wonder how you are expected to dress at a church you’ve never visited before. Since the Bible presents no dress code, except for simple decency and Christian humility, Grace doesn’t make any rules either. On any Sunday at our church you may see running shoes and heels, jeans and suits, open collars and ties. When a person dresses out of love for his or her Lord, the choice of dress, be it casual or more formal, is acceptable to God . . . and us.
What do I do with my kids?
  • Bring them along!  Jesus himself said, "Let the little children come to me, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."  It is not unusual to hear the cry of a baby mixed in with the sound of hymns or readings. If, however, at any time you feel the need, we have a cry room with a couch, rocking chair, and quiet toys from which you can see and hear the service. There is a changing table in the women's restroom.  Coloring sheets and crayons are available in the back of church.
Do I have to put money in the offering plate?
  • The members of Grace Lutheran Church have joined together to do the Lord's work in this community and around the world.  Guest need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry.
Should I go up to receive the Lord's Supper?
  • We believe that in the Lord’s Supper, Jesus offers His body and blood to us for the forgiveness of our sins.  The Bible also teaches us that Holy Communion is an expression of our complete “oneness,” or unity, of faith.

For those reasons, we invite to the Lord’s Supper those who have confessed their agreement with our beliefs through membership in this congregation or one of our sister congregations of the WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) or the ELS (Evangelical Lutheran Synod).

For more information about our communion practice please refer to the pamphlet titled “What About Closed Communion?” which is available in the tract rack next to Pastor’s office, or speak with Pastor Naumann before or after the service.
How do I get to your church?
  • Grace Lutheran Church is located on the corner of Campion Blvd. and 15th Street on the south side of Prairie du Chien, across from the local cemetary.  If you are traveling from the north side of Prairie du Chien, come south on Hwy 18 (Marquette Avenue) and take a left on Campion, across from Pizza Hut.  If you are coming from the south side of town, travel north on Hwy 18 and take a right on 15th Street, just past the BP gas station.
